The Francophonie Day and Week 2025 is fast approaching, and this year we’ll be celebrating the 30th edition of the event, around the theme “Take the floor!”.

The 30th anniversary of the Semaine de la Langue Française et de la Francophonie

From March 15 to 23, participants in the various events organized for the Francophonie Day and Week 2025 will be encouraged to observe, create and express themselves through their words or an artistic work.

This event, created in 1995 by the French Ministry of Culture, aims to highlight our linguistic heritage through a variety of cultural and educational events every year. In 2025, it will offer a multitude of activities to celebrate the richness of the French language and culture.

International Francophonie Day at the Alliance Française

On Thursday March 20, teachers at the Alliance Française de Bordeaux will be organizing creative projects for their students to celebrate the International Francophonie Day. These projects will call on their creativity as well as their knowledge of the French-speaking world, which they will have acquired during their French courses or during cultural activities offered by our school.

The students will then celebrate the day at a convivial gathering at the Alliance Française, where they will sample French and Bordeaux specialities.

“Dis-moi dix mots pour la planète”

For over ten years, the Alliance Française de Bordeaux has been working alongside the Direction des Services Départementaux de l’Éducation Nationale to organize the “Dis-moi dix mots” poetry contest during the Francophonie Week.

In fact, every year, budding poets have to create a literary or artistic work, incorporating 10 set words. The aim is to give free rein to creativity within a given framework.

In 2025, the theme is the planet and the environment. Texts must therefore include the following words: biome, foraging, canopy, conscious, clearing, imprint, gleaning, palm grove, solar and living.

This theme highlights the ability of the French language to evolve. But that’s not all! The aim is also to show that it can respond to pressing contemporary issues, such as the preservation of the planet and biodiversity.

As a result, these words are tools for raising awareness of the beauty of our natural world and the need to protect it.

Francophonie Day in the spotlight at AF Bordeaux

The competition is aimed at elementary school pupils in the Bordeaux region.

Each year, participants write poems incorporating between 4 and 6 of the required words. It’s a fun and educational way to reconcile artistic expression with respect for linguistic constraints.

The 2025 edition of the competition will mark the 15th year of this collaboration, with more and more entries and texts received.

The winners will be honored at a ceremony on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at the Athénée Joseph Wresinski. During the event, actors will bring the winning poems to life.

Francophonie Day and Week 2025: a call for creativity and commitment
