Culture

Because learning French also means discovering French culture, each month we offer you the opportunity to take part in various cultural, tourist and sporting activities to discover Bordeaux and the local culture. Essential for a complete immersion !

  • All our activities are provided or accompanied by a French-speaking facilitator.
  • The activities are reserved for students following our French courses.
  • Registration required at the cultural service of the Alliance Française.

Bordeaux tour

Visit downtown Bordeaux with a volunteer guide, who will provide you with various explanations about the history and architecture of our city and its monuments.

Excursion to Saint-Emilion

Wednesday, July 1
1:30 – 8:00 pm.

Visit the medieval village of Saint-Émilion and its underground monuments, before discovering a wine château where you will be offered two glasses of wine.

Aquitaine Museum

Thursday, July 2

Discover the Museum of Aquitaine, where a guide will teach you more about the history of Bordeaux in the 18th century and its role in the triangular trade.

Come and discover the colorful worlds of Henri Matisse and Frida Kahlo in an immersive exhibition at the former submarine base in Bordeaux.

L’Etrangère

Directed by Gaya Jiji, this film tells the story of Selma’s arrival in Bordeaux after fleeing Syria, where she left behind her 6-year-old son and her missing husband.

Climb to the top of the famous Dune du Pilat, then enjoy an oyster tasting at the port of Larros, before discovering the town and beach of Arcachon.

Cheeses and wines

Wednesday, Thrusday, Friday July 15, 16 & 17

Taste around ten French cheeses paired with different glasses of wine, while the cheesemonger explains the characteristics of each cheese you sample.

Astroshow Open Air

Thursday, July 16

Come to the Astroshow Open Air at Square Dom Bedos and enjoy a live music festival blending rock, pop, punk, and electro/DJ culture.

Surfing initiation

Saturday, July 18
8:30 am. – 7:00 pm.

Try your hand at surfing and enjoy the beach in Lacanau while discovering this iconic sport, especially popular in southwestern France.

Museum of Fine Arts

Accompanied by a guide, explore the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Bordeaux and discover some of the great names of French and European painting.

Petanque

Come challenge your fellow students in a Pétanque tournament, a traditional sport from the south of France. A good time guaranteed!

Château Pape Clément

Visit the Château Pape Clément estate in Pessac and enjoy a tasting of three glasses of wine, including one from Château Pape Clément wine.

RELÂCHE FESTIVAL

From July 3 until August 20

Enjoy an eclectic musical lineup at the Festival Relâche.

A must-see event of the Bordeaux summer, the festival showcases local and international artists in a lively and festive atmosphere.

FRENCH NATIONAL DAY

On the occasion of the French National Day on July 14, attend the traditional fireworks display!

Enjoy numerous workshops and activities throughout the day to celebrate the French Revolution.

DANCING ON THE QUAYS

From July 14 until August 2, the Dancing on the Quays Festival is back to honor dancing !

Come discover beginner classes and dance performances featuring rock, samba, tango, dancehall, and many other styles along the riverfront.
