Culture

Because learning French also means discovering French culture, each month we offer you the opportunity to take part in various cultural, tourist and sporting activities to discover Bordeaux and the local culture. Essential for a complete immersion !

  • All our activities are provided or accompanied by a French-speaking facilitator.
  • The activities are reserved for students following our French courses.
  • Registration required at the cultural service of the Alliance Française.

Chandeleur

Monday, February 2
10:30 – 11:30 am.

Enjoy a gourmet break on Candlemas Day, savoring delicious crêpes in a friendly atmosphere, as is the French tradition.

Bordeaux tour

Monday, February 2
3:00 – 5:00 pm.

Visit downtown Bordeaux with a volunteer guide, who will provide you with various explanations about the history and architecture of our city and its monuments.

Excursion to Saint-Émilion

Wednesday, February 4
1:30 – 8:00 pm.

Discover the medieval village of Saint-Emilion, with a tour of its underground monuments, followed by a visit to a château where you’ll be offered two glasses of wine.

Discover Le Théorème de Marguerite, Anna Novion’s 2023 film recounting the turbulent journey of a brilliant mathematics student.

Bassins des Lumières : Henri Matisse and Frida Kahlo

Wednesday, February 11

Come and discover the colorful worlds of Henri Matisse and Frida Kahlo in an immersive exhibition at the former submarine base in Bordeaux.

Excursion to the Bay of Arcachon

Saturday, February 14
9:30 am – 7:00 pm

Climb to the top of the famous Dune du Pilat, then enjoy an oyster tasting at the port of Larros, before discovering the town and beach of Arcachon.

Cheese tasting

Tuesday Feb 17 & Thursday Feb 19
3:00 – 5:00 pm. & 4:00 – 6h00 pm.

Enjoy a tasting of several French cheeses and different glasses of wine, with explanations from the cheesemaker about the origins of the cheeses being tasted.

Aquitaine Museum

Thursday, February 19
2:00 – 3:30 pm.

With a guide, explore the Aquitaine Museum to learn more about the history of Bordeaux and the region, particularly during the 18th century.

Petanque

Friday, February 20
3:00 – 5:00 pm.

Test your skills by participating in a pétanque tournament, a friendly French sport that is particularly popular in spring and summer.

Visit of the Chartrons

Tuesday, February 24
3:00 – 5:00 pm.

With our volunteer guide Jean, stroll and discover the famous Bordeaux district of Chartrons, its Saint-Louis church and its narrow streets full of authenticity.

SKIBUS SHUTTLES

January 10 to March 31

Until the end of March, it is possible to treat yourself to a day on the slopes with the Skibus shuttles !

From Bordeaux in the morning to Cauterets, the package includes the bus journey and a day on the slopes.

THE WARM HOURS

From January 14 to February 25

Ne ratez pas le retour des Heures Chaleureuses, chaque mercredi de 18h à minuit à l’Espace Darwin.

Enjoy hip-hop, disco, and house DJ sets, as well as organic beers and street food to warm up your winter evenings. Free entrance.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

Sunday, February 22

On Sunday, February 22, join the Chinese New Year parade starting at 2:30 p.m. at Place de la Victoire.

Discover the undulating dragons, lion dances, music, and various traditional costumes as you follow the parade to the Water Mirror.
